We went from as much as 39.5 hours down to l0 hours a week!
“Needless to say, paying the mortgage, unless you are a salaried manager, became impossible. Those paying child support had little or nothing to live on. I was blessed with a professional wife whose income got us thru the short times. I am actually more stable financially with unemployment pay now than at any time when I was working extremely long hours and never receiving even a minimum pay raise. Yes, I was also one of those “older” workers whom, when they realized I had a military retirement, cut my hours to bring in the gullible new employees with smaller salaries. Even the incentives to have “no accidents” went from a one time “steak” cookout down to nachos and chips; so where was the incentive to be safer!”
